Tutor for Level 2 Certificate In Fitness Instructing & Level 3 Certificate In Personal Training

Why did you start working in the fitness industry?

I have always had a huge passion for sports and exercise which lead me to study a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Therapy MSc, and now a PhD based around Sports and Exercise Psychology. Helping individuals to optimise their health and performance, is extremely rewarding for me.

Why did you decide to start teaching courses for personal trainers?

Continually improving your knowledge and keeping up to date with the research is the key to being a successful fitness professional. Research within the health and fitness industry are always changing and new ideas are always emerging, so it is important to keep on top of this. Without keeping in touch with the latest research you cannot set yourself apart from the rest of the highly competitive fitness industry.

Do you exercise yourself?

I have been involved in various sports since I can remember, such as Football, Gymnastics, Athletics, Rugby Union and League. Despite my time to hang my boots up came earlier than desired I still have a passion for the training that came with the sports. I fill my spare time with resistance training and do enjoy (for some reason) getting a couple of high intensity interval sessions into my week which usually involves hill sprints…ouch!

Why should someone attend a course with motive8IQ?

All of the tutors who work for motive8IQ are personal trainers by trade so we can let you into the tricks of the trade. We all love to read too, so we can keep you up to date with the latest research.

What advice would you give someone who wants to become a fitness instructor or personal trainer?

DO it for the right reasons. DON’T do it because “you like the gym”. A great health and fitness professional does their job because they get great satisfaction from seeing the changes and benefits they can bring to others’ lives. DON’T become a PT robot, pass the test and coast through PT life on the bare minimum. DO get out there read new things, get new ideas, and be better than every other PT out there.

Likes and dislikes

Likes – Rugby, Golf, and The Walking Dead
Dislikes – Car Boot Sales, and Sultanas/Raisins
